Our services

Cacao

Cacao is one of the most vital raw materials in the food industry and is traded worldwide in large quantities, both in bulk and in bags. At Bremer & de Jong, we offer specialized inspection services for cacao, regardless of the form in which it is transported. Our services are designed to ensure the quality, quantity, and condition of the shipment, so the cacao arrives safely and meets the agreed specifications at its destination.

Bulk and bagged cacao inspection

Cacao is traded internationally in both bulk and bagged form, each requiring specific inspection care. Bremer & de Jong has years of experience with both transport methods, providing tailored solutions for the unique requirements of your shipment.

Inspection of bulk cacao

When transporting bulk cacao, such as by ship, it’s essential to monitor storage conditions to prevent spoilage or quality degradation. Our surveyors perform detailed Load Compartment Inspections (LCI) on inland vessels, bulk carriers, and other storage facilities in compliance with strict standards. We check for factors such as infestation, cleanliness of the holds, ventilation, and overall suitability, ensuring that the cacao remains in optimal condition throughout the journey.

Inspection of bagged cacao

For bagged cacao, it’s crucial to keep the packaging intact and to conduct precise quantity checks. Since cacao is sometimes stored for extended periods, weight is carefully monitored. Our inspectors not only count the number of bags but also verify the packaging and labeling, ensuring all specifications match the agreed terms between buyer and seller.

Sampling and sealing

As with other agricultural products, cacao sampling is a critical part of the inspection process. Samples taken during inspection play a key role in assessing the quality and condition of the cacao. At Bremer & de Jong, we perform sampling in line with contractual requirements and international standards. Our sampling techniques are adapted to cacao’s unique characteristics, allowing us to take representative samples that accurately reflect the entire shipment.

In addition to sampling, we also offer sealing services to ensure your shipment remains secure from the point of inspection to its final destination. This safeguards the integrity of your cacao and provides an extra layer of assurance in cases of disputes or arbitration.

Draft surveys and LCI

When transporting cacao by ship, precise quantity control is essential to ensure that the correct amount of cacao is loaded and unloaded. Our draft surveys ensure that the quantity of cacao on board seafaring vessels is measured as accurately as possible, eliminating any uncertainties about actual quantities during transit.

In addition, we conduct LCI (Load Compartment Inspections) for inland vessels, bulk carriers, containers, and storage facilities to check the cleanliness and suitability of the compartments for cacao transport. These inspections are carried out according to strict guidelines, ensuring that storage and transportation meet the highest standards of food safety and product quality.

Damage assessment and risk mitigation

Cacao is a delicate product, susceptible to damage from moisture, mold, or physical impact during transit and storage. Our inspectors are trained to identify and report any damage as soon as it occurs. We provide damage assessment and resolution, enabling swift action to address and resolve issues. This reduces the financial impact of damage to the cacao and helps prevent disputes with recipients, insurers, or other involved parties.
